New Brews News - 11/05/2019
Introducing two new brands stemmed from the unique, different, and mildly psychotic minds of BrewDog, Hawkes Cider and Overworks.
Hawkes
Hawkes was born in the UK's capital and woven into the streets of London as the city's first-ever urban cidery. Over the course of their thrilling cider-expedition, it became apparent their next step on this juicy journey was to make-way over to the States. This meant combining British traditions with American methodology. Here's to the humble apple and to its power to change the world of cider. We're excited to launch this brand with three flavors for our entire 10 county footprint.
Overworks
Dedicated to exploring and pushing the boundaries of what is possible with fermentation, they're on a quest to redefine wild and sour beers, forever. With a purpose-built facility where craft and nature find harmony, they utilize wild yeast and microbes from their environment and ingredients sourced from all around the world.
NEW BREWS NEWS
Atlas “Rowdy Rye Ale”
Style: Rye Beer
ABV: 6.2%
Notes: Made with three varieties of hops and a generous amount of specialty malts, Rowdy offers a complex flavor and aroma that is both aggressive and fun. The addition of malted rye to the grain bill lends a peppery and distinct character to the beer which compliments the bitterness and floral notes of brewhouse hop additions. Finally, this copper-hued ale receives a liberal addition of dry hops in the fermenting vessel, imparting citrus aromas and a crisp, clean finish.
BrewDog “Jack Hammer”
Style: American IPA
ABV: 7.2%
Notes: Get ready to hammer it. Press the button. Take the ride. Hop overload awaits. Kick-start with massive grapefruit aroma. Then accelerate hard into mind bending bitterness. Ride the spike of caramel craziness until the end of the line. And let the bitterness of bitter finishes nail your taste buds to the floor. Don't say we didn't warn you. Jack Hammer, if bitterness is a place, you have reached your destination.
Hawkes “Dead & Berried Cider”
Style: Mixed Berry Cider
ABV: 6%
Notes: Hawkes' game plan? Juice it up. They blended a classic medium-dry cider with a selection of mixed berries. Strawberry, raspberry, and blueberry fuse in juicy layers. Smooth bodied with a textured palate and natural, delicate sweetness. Dead & Berried, juiced up and ready to roll.
Hawkes “Doom & Bloom Rose Cider”
Style: Hard Rose Cider
ABV: Spark your taste buds with a rose cider that's pressed to impress. Mix it up with the bold flavors of rhubarb and delicate aromas of strawberry, surging into a symphony of subtle sweetness. Simple, clean, and refreshing, this showcases a fruity palate and dry body, with a devotion to the classic outfit that is a blush cider.
Hawkes “Slam Funk Hard Apple Cider”
Style: Hard Apple Cider
ABV: 6.5%
Notes: This is their ode to the funk within the fruit. This high scoring blend uses classic apples picked from the orchard and applies both traditional and innovative reuses to amplify the funk quotient. Sparkling and dry, complex and full-bodied with a sweet start and tannic finish. Slam Funk, get ready for the rebound.
Heavy Seas “Coconut Siren Noire”
Style: Bourbon-Barrel Aged Imperial Chocolate Stout w/ Coconut
ABV: 9.5%
Notes: Coconut Siren Noire, a tweaked version of the famous barrel-aged chocolate stout. Heavy Seas decided to forgo the vanilla bean addition that the regular version has and add a healthy dose of fresh coconut as well as toasted coconut. Then, they add dark chocolate to accentuate the flavors further. This beer is like a Mounds Bar in a glass.
Overworks “Cosmic Crush Apricot Sour”
Style: American Wild Ale
ABV: 6%
Notes: A shimmering golden orb. Juicy, freshly cut apricots hit the nose and take center stage on the palate. Dry as space dust, the tart body is deftly balanced with mouthwatering juiciness. All resting on a brett funk baseline, and a lingering fruity finish.
Overworks “Cosmic Crush Boysenberry Sour”
Style: American Wild Ale
ABV: 6%
Notes: Redder than the red planet. Aromas of citric, malic and lactic acidity. Juiced to the outer limits with funky barnyard undertones. Lightly dry on the palate with a crisp, refreshing finale.
Overworks “Cosmic Crush Cherry Sour”
Style: American Wild Ale
ABV: 6%
Notes: A ruby red cosmonaut. Aromas of fresh and wild, stoned cherries, stewed fruit and sweet pie unite and orbit into underlying funky tartness. Delivered hayloft dry with juicy acidity and a sour cherry kirsch-like finish.
Port City “Ways & Means”
Style: Session IPA
ABV: 4.5%
Notes: Ways & Means is a session IPA brewed with rye and just the right amount of Citra and Centennial hops for bitterness. It boasts complex aromatics of citrus and tropical fruits, finishing with the typical clean, refreshing character for which their beers are known for.
Reckless “Morning Grind Coffee Blonde”
Style: American Coffee Blonde Ale
ABV: 5.5%
Notes: A collaboration with their friends and neighbors at Chesapeake Roasting Company. This is brewed for the morning drinker. Light and easy, this blonde ale has over one pound of coffee per barrel of whole bean boaters blend to stay true to the blonde color.
Reckless “Oatmeal Raisin Cookie”
Style: American Brown Ale
ABV: 5.5%
Notes: Reckless' limited release American Brown Ale, brewed with traditional brown malt, a touch of brown sugar and milk sugar. After fermentation they added 10 pounds of raisins, cinnamon sticks, a touch of vanilla, nutmeg, and chocolate. Take a sip and you'll feel like you're eating at Grandma's.
Terrapin “Moo-Hoo Chocolate Milk Stout”
Style: Milk Stout
ABV: 6%
Notes: Dark brown to black in color. Aromas of dark chocolate. Dark roasted malt flavor with hints of caramel and chocolate, rounded out by a sweet, creamy finish. Yoo-Hoo for grown ups.
