DuClaw Brewing Co., Key Brewing, & Charm City Meadworks - 2 Stars Not My Style

DuClaw Brewing Image 2 Stars Not My Style.png

Style: American Sour Ale

ABV: 7.1%

Notes: This day and age the public has the power. A simple rating on Ratebeer, Untappd or Beer Advocate can virtually make or break a brew. That said, sometimes…well, actually more often than we’d like to admit, the system can be abused. In a playful response to online beer review culture, Baltimore’s DuClaw Brewing Company, Key Brewing, Charm City Meadworks, and World of Beer Baltimore have come together to collaborate on “2 Stars Not My Style”, a hazy sour IPA with peaches, pretzels, paw paws, honey, and lactose. Specifically, the label is calling out those who rate styles they don’t like in the first place. Captain Neckbeard Redditor Beersnob shouldn’t take offense, it’s all in good fun. Right?

Monument City Brewing Co. - Lamp Lighter Imperial Porter

Monument City Brewing Can Image Lamp Lighter.png

Style: Imperial Porter

ABV: 9.2%

Notes: Highlandtown’s own is welcoming the chilly temperatures with this new Imperial Porter. Featuring robust notes of chocolate, roasted coffee, and a hint of vanilla, this 9.2% malt bomb is ideal for sweater weather.

Monument City Brewing Co. - Waterways Double IPA

Style: Imperial IPA

ABV: 8.5%

Notes: Brilliantly golden in color, this Double IPA drinks smooth with a woodsy and earthy pine flavor, with hints of lemon zest shining through. In today’s India Pale Ale culture clouded with haze, it’s nice to have a straightforward hop bomb that goes back to its roots.

Atlas “Ninja Sauce Belgian-Style Pale Ale”

ATL+Grapic+Ninja+Sauce+%281%29.jpg

Style: Belgian Pale Ale

ABV: 5.6%

Notes: Not your typical Belgian Pale Ale, Ninja Sauce balances tropical Mosaic hops with subtle spice and bright citrus notes from the Belgian yeast. Light bodied, fruity, and ever so drinkable. Wondering what’s the secret sauce to this pale ale? A ninja never tells.

Charm City Meadworks “Mango Comapeño”

Style: Sparkling Mead

ABV: 6.9%

Notes: Everyone tends to dial it down for their summer seasonal release, whereas Charm City kicks it up a notch with this not too spicy, not too sweet, hot weather treat. In case you were wondering, comapeño is a pepper that’s in the same family as a jalapeño, just less spicy. Personally, I can’t get enough of this stuff. I love the perfect balance of these two unique flavors.

Charm City Meadworks “Raspberry Coconut”

CC+Can+Raspberry+Coconut.jpg

Style: Sparkling Mead

ABV: 6.9%

Notes: A delicious yet unique combo of two exotic flavors, Charm City Raspberry Coconut is one the hidden gems from our friends down the road. Tart raspberry aids an earthy, velvety tropical coconut crispness with every sip.

DuClaw “No Way Gose - Tequila Barrel Aged Sour”

DC Logo No Way Gose.jpg

Style: Gose

ABV: 5.5%

Notes: A very similar base to Gose O’s and Strawberry Letter 23, this gose is made with pineapple, lime and salt, and aged in tequila barrels. Refreshingly tart, slightly sweet and delightfully easy to knock back. Put the Corona down and pick up a can of Duclaw No Way Gose for this year’s Cinco de Mayo. Or, feel free to dial back the margarita mix in your cocktail and substitute No Way Gose as a base and turn a few heads. This vibrant, delicious brew is another home run sour from our friends in Baltimore. Arriba! Arriba!

Stone “Revengeful Spirit Imperial IPA”

ST Can Revengeful Spirit.png

Style: Imperial IPA

ABV: 8.1%

Notes: In the late summer of 2017 Stone debuted Vengeful Spirit IPA, a tropical IPA brewed with pineapple and Mandarin orange. Its purpose was to demonstrate the gloriousness whole fruit can to their IPAs. It did so, with a vengeance. So, they asked themselves with creating an even bigger and more aggressive version of the beer, packing it with extra hops alongside real citrus and tropical fruit. The result is Stone Revengeful Spirit Imperial IPA, a beer, like revenge itself, best served cold.

Terrapin “Watermelon Gose”

TR Tap Label Watermelon Gose.png

Style: Gose

ABV: 4.3%

Notes: Goses, an almost forgotten style of beer has been resurrected by American breweries over the last few years. Terrapin’s first approach at a gose, this beer is kettle soured with Lactobacillus for a tart, but refreshing brew. Watermelon aroma and flavor is complimented with a distinct lactic tartness and saltiness that is true to style. The combo of sharp sea salt and refreshing watermelon dances on the palate with each sip, creating the ultimate alternative summer beverage.
